Americans Now Eating More Healthy Food: Study
A new study has revealed that Americans who have been famous for eating super-sized cheeseburgers and coke have now brought a big change into their eating habits, as they have started eating more healthy food now.
According to experts, in past several years American eating habits have gone worse, and to the most fat and sugar consumption was the main cause behind increasing obese population in the country.
The study showed that the calories consumed by typical American adults, which reached an alarming peak in 2003, are now undergoing their first sustained decline since the US government started monitoring them more than 40 years ago.
This calorie intake decline has been noted the most among children where the average daily calorie consumption has decreased by at least 9%. The study noted the most dramatic decline in the amount of sugary soft drinks consumed by Americans.
It was found that an average American drank 25% less sugary soft drinks than since the late 1990s when an individual drank a surprising 40 gallons a year.
Growing intake of sugary products and junk raised the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer among Americans. More than a third of Americans are still considered to be obese but that proportion to some extent has finally stabilized, showed the study.
Obesity rates have stopped increasing among adults and schoolchildren but have actually fallen among younger children. Another study conducted by the US government showed that obesity rates among children aged two to five saw a 43% decline in the past decade.
