Adipurush has received negative reviews but the movie has managed to collect over Rs 200 crore by second day. Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan have been criticized for their below-par performance. Director Om Raut has been criticized for poor direction and unprofessional graphics. Dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir has been blamed for crass dialogues (especially for Lord Hanumana and Meghnada).

Earlier, dialogue writer Muntashir defended the dialogues but as criticism continued online, he has changed his tone. During an interview with Republic World, Muntashir added, “A very meticulous thought process that has gone into writing the dialogues for Bajrangbali. We have made it simple because we have to understand one thing (that) if there are multiple characters in a film, all of them can’t speak the language.”

Later, he said that the movie isn’t an adaptation of Ramayana but is only inspired by Ramayana. As criticism mounted, Muntashir said that he is ready to change the dialogues that have hurt public sentiments.

During another interview, he added, “We knew from the beginning that we are only heavily inspired by the Ramayana, but we are not making Ramayana. We just made a small chunk of the battle fought in the Ramayana.”

In the writ petition filed in Delhi HC, Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta stated, “This is a writ petition in the shape of public interest litigation under article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of an appropriate writ in the nature of direction to the respondents for removal of objectionable scenes depicting religious leaders /characters/figures in bad taste and issues a writ of mandamus to the respondents directing them to not certify the feature film Adipurush for public exhibition and pass such other or further order as this hon’ble court may deem fit and proper in the facts and circumstances of the case.”

The movie has definitely hurt religious sentiments. In New Delhi, Hindu Sena has filed a public interest litigation to stop public exhibition of movie.

With massive budget of Rs 600 crore and a topic that resonates with Indian audience, Om Raut has failed massively. The movie could recover the costs but it has left bad taste for Bollywood fans.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has given Adipurush one-and-a-half star rating. His short review for the movie mentioned only “disappointing”.

There have been reports of influencers and media critics receiving notices from Adipurush management team about defamation.

The movie has managed to create a massive hype before release and social media is full of posts criticizing the movie. It is yet to be seen if the movie will manage to recover Rs 600 crore. The initial business volume could be attributed to strong hype for the movie. But, majority of reviews about the movie are negative and this could kill the hype very quickly.
