3D Technology can Reveal if one is Aging Right or Faster

Some people look older than their age and some look younger than they really are. A new 3D technology will help if a person is aging at right pace or faster.

The researchers said when they were studying aging they found many several biological markers in blood that provided hint of aging visible on the faces of people. To cite an example, women who look older have higher levels of bad cholesterol in their body, while men having lower levels of albumin in their blood plasma.

A special camera called 3dMDface System was used to assess the facial scans of 332 Chinese people. The researchers also took blood samples from the participants aged between 17 and 77 years of age. Main aim was to identify common markers present in blood which are associated with aging.

Study's senior researcher Jing-Dong Han from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Max Planck Partner Institute in Shanghai said, "3D facial images can really tell your biological age. It's really more accurate than a physical exam".

Mathematical model was also used to accurately calculate the age of person based on the 3D facial scans. It was found that people who were below 40 years can look up to six years younger or older than their real age, solely based on facial features.

Great variations were found for people who are older than 40, as some looked younger and other looks so much older. Therefore, it was very difficult to find out true biological age of people aged more than 40 years of age.

When one grows older, then patterns are evident, including mouth growing longer, nose becoming wider, forehead narrows and the mouth-to-nose distance increases.
