28 mega projects expected to be cleared in CCI’s Monday meeting
The Government's Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) is meeting on Monday to discuss 28 mega investment projects worth Rs 172,000 crore.
Sources, with direct knowledge of the matter, said that most of these investment projects were expected to get cleared by the committee.
Of the mega investment projects, 18 are power plant projects worth nearly Rs 82,000 crore. These projects have long been stuck over various issues related to FSAs (fuel supply agreements).
The sources said the CCI would ask the ministry of coal to make sure that all the required FSAs would be signed by 31st of August this year. The sources added that the coal ministry was willing to undertake that these FSAs would be signed by the date set by the committee.
The remaining 10 investment projects worth Rs 92,000 crore have been stuck due to reasons like delays in clearances from environment ministry.
Today's CCI meeting comes just a few days after Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram assured representatives of foreign institutions and lenders that the government was making efforts to accelerate the process of clearing mega investment projects.
