Yemen condemns Bashir arrest warrant as "dangerous precedent"
Sana'a, Yemen - Yemen denounced the decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday to issue an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, describing it as a "dangerous precedent."
In a statement carried by the official Saba news agency, an official source said Yemen "staunchly condemns" the arrest order that "sets a dangerous precedent of a flagrant interference in countries' internal affairs."
The arrest warrant against al-Bashir "would undermine Sudan's stability, harm efforts to bring peace to Darfur, and jeopardise security and stability in the region," the statement said.
"Yemen calls on the UN Security Council that referred the Darfur issue to the ICC to reconsider this unjust procedure," it said.
The warrant "clearly and bluntly highlights the double standards in applying the concepts of international justice," it added.
It said the arrest order comes at a time the UN Security Council and the ICC "fail to take any action against the Israeli leaders, who are the real war criminals for the crimes they committed against the Palestinian people." (dpa)
