Work stress is as harmful as secondhand smoke
It has been reported in a new study that impact of workplace stress is similar to that caused by secondhand smoke. The study has been conducted by the experts from Harvard Business School and Stanford University
There could be many reasons behind stress. Problems in family, transportation grind, financial struggles are some of the examples. As per reports, the scholars from the Harvard School of Business concentrated on stresses related to work and their effect on one's health.
Data on 225 studies was collected by the group of researchers and the trends showed in the studies were also analyzed. It was found that out of all the 225 studies, those related to work stress could have an impact on a person's health.
It has been reported in the studies that those who were having too much stress in their work were having the same risks associated with health as those who were often exposed to second-hand smoke, those who do not involve in physical activities very often, and those who do not take proper healthy diet.
According to a researcher, "Wellness programs are great at doing what they're designed to do. But they're targeting [employee behavior] not targeting the cause of stress. There are two sides of the equation and right now we focus on one side".
The researcher said that they are making efforts to draw attention to the other side, which is the as a result of managerial practices. Hiring of required number of people to work in a specific task could assist in alleviating the stress in each employee. It is also helpful for structuring the processes in manpower in order to regulate all the tasks.
