Woman Loses Navel in Tummy Tucking Surgery

In a strange incident of medical negligence, a woman named Lori Jones lost her navel after she underwent a surgery for the removal of her body fat, since she had cesarean sections. She wanted to be able to wear a swim suit and therefore wanted to get back into shape. For that, the Houston mom had been saving money for quite some time. Lori Jones, who is 45 years old, did extensive research on doctors and took many consultations prior to arriving at her decision of undergoing the surgery.

She chose Dr. Younan Nowzardan, who is a renowned plastic surgeon from Houston, for performing her tummy tucking surgery for getting rid of an umbilical hernia. The surgery was performed in December 2015. Dr. Younan Nowzardan is a famous doctor dealing particularly with patients who are overweight and performs gastric bypass surgeries on his patients. Jones agreed to the fact that her tummy tuck surgery has come out to be perfect and the way she wanted it to be. However, the only issue is her missing belly button.

After the surgery, her tummy was covered with surgical tape and the gauze, it was not possible to determine that Jones belly button was missing. Jones stated that because of the surgical tape and gauze, she was not aware of the incision and she thought that her navel is very much in place. But, when the gauze and tape were removed, she got the shock of her life as her belly button was missing.

Jones revealed that prior to the surgery she was not warned by the doctor about the risk associated with the loss of her navel. "We did tell her before and she had a previous surgery and she had a scar and there's no way you can save that area. I told her that before surgery and after surgery," said Dr. Nowzardan. The doctor claims that the belly button can be reinstated after six months, but Jones wants to take legal action.
