Woman and her child rescued from NYC river
Authorities said, after the pair was rescued, a mother faces charges after jumping into New York's Hudson River with her baby daughter.
The New York Daily News has reported that the 33-year-old woman apparently had been distraught after fighting with her husband and tried to kill herself and her 18-month-old child.
The woman removed the child from a stroller, climbed over a short fence and leaped into the river about 11:30 a. m. Tuesday, witnesses told the newspaper.
Lane Beauchamp, 43, who lives nearby said, "It was a nightmare to watch. You could see them bobbing down in the water, and they started to go under."
The mother and child were hospitalized in stable condition, the Wall Street Journal reported. The newspaper also said that the woman was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police identified the woman as Debi Silvia, while the Daily News ID'd her as Devi Silva Dominic and the child as Jessica, the Journal further reported. (With Inputs from Agencies)
