Window blinds by IKEA recalled due to strangulation risk

Window blinds by IKEA recalled due to strangulation riskA voluntary recall of IKEA window blinds was announced by the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission due to a risk of strangulation.

The commission said that about 3.3 million window blinds, including all IKEA Roman blinds and roll-up blinds are involved in the recall.

The blinds were imported from India, China, Poland and Estonia by IKEA Home Furnishings of Conshohocken, Pa., and sold nationwide at IKEA outlets from January 1998 through June 2009 for between $5 and $55.

The commission further said that roller blinds include a looped bead chain that increase the risk of strangulation if a child becomes caught in the cord. Roman blinds are risky if a child is caught between the fabric of the blind and the free-standing lifting loop.

The notice also said that loops to lift roll-up blinds can also endanger a child.

It was further reported that consumers were advised to stop using the roller blinds if they do not have a tension devise attached to the chain. Consumers were advised to return all other blinds to IKEA for a full refund. (With Inputs from Agencies)
