You will witness the longest solar eclipse of the twenty first century on July 22, 2009. Some parts of India will witness total eclipse, which is expected to last for 6 minutes and 44 seconds. The total solar eclipse will be the longest eclipse till 2132.
The solar eclipse will begin at 5.28 a.m. (IST), with the shadow of the moon touching the earth at local sunrise point in the Arabian Sea, close to the western coast of India, and the eclipse will end at 10.42 a.m. (IST), with the shadow of the moon leaving the earth at local sunset point in the South Pacific Ocean. According to solar scientists and astronomers, the path of total eclipse will be through regions of west, central, east and north-east India.
You will be able to view the total eclipse in parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and northeastern States, while in the other parts of India, partial eclipse will be witnessed. In Gujarat, Surat is the place for viewing the total solar eclipse. The total solar eclipse will be witnessed at Indore and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and Taregna (Patna) in Bihar.
Solar scientists, astronomers, stargazers, and tourists are getting thronged in these cities to view the longest solar eclipse of 21st century. The tourism departments of the Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are promoting their respective cities for viewing the total solar eclipse.The partial eclipse will be visible in the morning, throughout India. The eclipse will be span from 6.20 a.m to 7.14 a.m at Kochi and Thrissur (Kerala); from 6.20 a.m to 7.15 a.m at Kozhikode (Kerala); from 6.20 a.m to 7.13 a.m at Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala).
Other countries that will witness the total eclipse include Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. In China, the eclipse will be witnessed at 06:35 IST. In Shanghai, China, the total solar eclipse will be visible for five minutes. The total eclipse will also be visible over Japan's Ryukyu Islands and Iwo Jima. Marshall Islands and Kiribati will also witness total eclipse.
