Wal-Mart dismisses employee for usage of medical marijuana
A hassled Joseph Casias witnessed the never ending issues pertaining to his life. The first blow came when he was detected with sinus cancer and now the present one is pink slip from its employer, Wal-Mart.
The actual scenario revolved around the usage of marijuana, which Casias used to take against the enduring pain caused due to cancer and the inoperable brain tumor.
The retailer fired Casias claiming that he went to work high. Distressed Casias said, “I never thought I would be terminated for this”.
He further added that his superiors always knew that he was a patient who used to smoke cannabis in lieu of his ailments. Doctors had recommended marijuana to deal with against the disease. On top of it he owns legal card for the usage of the drug (i.e., it is legal in the state of Michigan).
Wal-Mart spokesman Greg Rossiter labeled the present situation to be an “unfortunate event.” In addition to this he said, “We have to consider the overall safety of our customers and associates, including Mr. Casias, when making a difficult decision like this.”
