Vox Media Acquires Re/code
The tech-business news site, Re/code will have new owners as veterans Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg have sold it to Vox Media, which already owns The Verge and several other websites.
While Recode's standalone website will be retained after the deal, its product reviewers will henceforth write for The Verge.
Vox Media confirmed the purchase of Revere Digital in a press release. On Tuesday, Re/code stated on its website that it would occasionally collaborate with The Verge. Under the arrangement, Re/code will focus on the business of technology and The Verge can remain focused on being the best mainstream technology and lifestyle site in the world.
The Silicon Valley journalists, Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, asserted, "We want to assure you that this combination is designed to bolster and enrich Re/code, and that we will continue to publish under the same name and leadership, with editorial independence".
They added that this combination will give Recode an access to the new tools and talent that are needed to make Recode stronger and better and also Recode's extent will be amplified and enhanced by Vox's greater audience and content management system.
The website statement further informed that initially Re/code will continue to hold its Code conferences, industry conferences where the journalists interview top technology executives but eventually it will migrate to Vox Media's publishing platform which will provide new ways to present news.
Re/code was launched 18 months ago and Mossberg and Swisher held the majority ownership while Comcast Corp's NBC Universal and Windsor Media shared a minority stake. It has been reported that the NBC Universal has exchanged its minority interest in Re/code for shares in Vox Media.
The acquisition transaction will be solemnized at the Recode's annual Code conference, which attracts an influential Silicon Valley audience. The conference will host the chiefs of reputed companies like of Airbnb, General Motors, Target, GoPro and Oculus VR and media heads of Snapchat, BuzzFeed and CBS.
