Vijender moves to second place in AIBA rankings

Indian boxer Vijender Singh Indian boxer Vijender Singh has jumped to second position in the latest men's boxing rankings of 75 kg weight category released by the International Boxing Association's
(AIBA) while three other Indian boxers have also been ranked in top-10 boxers in their respective categories. Vijender had won bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics last year.

Vijender, the Khel Ratna awardee, has been placed behind first ranked Olympic silver medalist Emilio Correa Bayeux of Cuba (2500 points) with 1700 points. Vijender had won bronze medals in European Grand Prix in Czech Republic and the Asian Championships in China this year.

The boxing rankings were released on the basis of performance of the boxers in 2007 AIBA World Boxing Championships, Olympic Qualifying tournaments, Beijing Olympics, Youth World Championships, Pan American Championships, European Elite Championships, Asian Elite Championships and African Elite Championships.

Among other Indians, Thokchom Nanao Singh has been placed at fifth position in 48kg category with 1400 points while Suranjoy Singh jumped to fourteenth rank with a total of 800 points in 51 kg category. Beijing Olympics quarterfinalist Akhil Kumar has been ranked ninth in the feather weight (57kg) category with 1050 points.
