Twitter blocks German users’ access to neo-Nazi account
According to a recent Financial Times report, popular micro-blogging site Twitter has blocked a neo-Nazi account - which belongs to an organization called "Besseres Hannover" - to its users in Germany.
As per the report, the move, which marks the first time that Twitter has executed its local censorship policy, came at the request of the German government; and stemmed from an alleged hate speech by the "Besseres Hannover" - which, in English, means "Better Hannover" - organization.
Twitter's blocking of German users' access to the Neo-Nazi account implies that the tweets posted on the account cannot be viewed by the Twitter users in the country, though they will be visible to the users elsewhere in the world.
Announcing Twitter's decision to block the "Besseres Hannover" account, Alex Macgillivray - Twitter's general counsel - recently posted a tweet in which he published links to the letter which German police has sent, seeking the blocking of the account.
In the letter, it has been clearly mentioned how the Neo-Nazi "Besseres Hannover" organization - which is a right-wing radical faction from Lower Saxony - has been banned by the German government.
Revealing that "Besseres Hannover" organization "is disbanded" and its "assets are seized," the letter said: "All its accounts in social networks have to be closed immediately."
