Turnout of voters below 50 pct in Bangalore

ElectionOn Sunday, the voters were called in to vote for their men and women representatives in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and hardly anyone voted. There were only 44.6% who voted, not even 50%.

It is very strange to notice such a poor turnout of voters across 198 wards in Bangalore, when the citizens had long been expressing their aggression for not having elected representatives to the city's governing body. The citizens also blamed the government for not ensuring these polls were held on time. However, when the time finally came for the citizens to give their decision, there was hardly any response.

The city residents were not really impressed by the encouragement of various civic-minded agencies

It was forwarded by State Election Commission secretary D K Ravindranath the turnout of voter for Bangalore Urban was 48% with wards in Bangalore South division registering a voting percentage of 42.54, Bangalore North 42.96 and Bangalore Central 44.89.

N R Narayana Murthy & Sudha Murty, Capt G R Gopinath, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and several celebrities, were the honourable exceptions and came to cast their vote in civic elections being held in the city after many years.

Furthermore, the belligerent campaign by political parties also failed to move the 66.19 lakh electorate, mandated with selecting 198 councillors from the total 1,343 contestants.

It will be on 5th April, when counting would be done since SEC intended one Sunday after polling day to hold a repoll, if necessary.

This long pause occurred due the ongoing school examinations between polling and counting.
