Agartala, Oct 4 : Militancy hasn’t deterred the masses of Tripura to work for social causes, for the people of the State overwhelmingly welcomed the ''traveling film festival'', which was on its three day stint in Agartala, the state''s capital.

The film festival is on a five month journey, to raise awareness about environment and wildlife.

The traveling film festival was organized by Centre of Media Studies, a non-governmental organization.

The audience of the festival cut across different age groups. A large number of students had also come to see the 30 movies that were screened during the three days of the festival.

The movies dealt with issues like climate change, food security, water resources, environment and wildlife.

''Vanaj'' a local documentary, about Tripura''s Rudrasagar Lake, attracted a lot of attention.

Moulinath Senapati, a film maker from Northeast, said, "It''s an effort to raise awareness towards the environment and environmental issue and this is being done through the medium of cinema, which can leave a deep impression on people''s mind. Another appreciable aspect of this film festival is the presence of school children and college students, which makes a big difference because to save the world we have to involve the younger generation as the world has to be conserved by them."

"If things like these come regularly we can contribute to the society. When we contribute to society the total generation will improve, only then the whole state will improve. And when the state will improve the nation will definitely improve," said Subhra, a film lover from Tripura.

On the sideline of the film festival, a painting exhibition that highlighted causes responsible for the degradation of environment was also held.

Since 2002, more than 2000 nationally and internationally acclaimed movies, filmed on environment and wildlife issues have been screened by the Centre of Media Studies to raise awareness. (ANI)
