A treatment is discovered for the deadly blood cancerRecently, a treatment is discovered for the deadly disease blood cancer by the researchers from Uppsala University. At present, multiple myeloma, one of the most common blood cancers is incurable but researchers have mange to find out the treatment for this disease.

Researchers have examined several patients suffering from myeloma and discovered that epigenetic mechanisms in the malignant plasma cell put some genes on silence.

One of the investigators in the study, Helena Jernberg Wiklund holds a view that due to silenced genes, malignant cell undergoes uncontrolled growth.

After finding silenced profile genes, researchers compared these cells with normal plasma cells and found that growth of plasma cells is controlled in contrast with silenced genes.

During study, researchers also discovered that the growth of tumor cells in an animal model of myeloma can be decreased by inhibitors of PcG.

Helena Jernberg Wiklund said that treating myeloma involves creating drugs that target PCG complex to control the growth of silenced genes and make the genes reactive.

The findings of the study were printed in the latest edition of the on-line journal PLoS ONE.
