Tortured Canadian man regains his speech
Police also said that a Canadian man who has been hospitalized for a month and may have been tortured has regained his speech and accused another man of attacking him.
CTV News reported on Monday that Dustin LaFortune was unconscious and unable to speak when he was dropped off anonymously at a hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan. There were indications he had been tortured.
CTV also said that LaFortune had testified in a gang-related murder trial in Winnipeg in 2004. LaFortune's mother said he has accused an acquaintance of attacking him, and the alleged attack is not related to his testimony.
Renee LaFortune said, "We know who did this and it has nothing to do with a trial in Winnipeg in 2004. I'd like the police to tell me what kind of motive there could be, what kind of motive causes someone to do that to another human being."
A cousin says he believes with time the family will know the circumstances that led to the torture.
Marcel LaFortune said, "It was inhumane and absolutely uncalled for no matter what the circumstances may have been." (With inputs from Agencies)
