Tokyo stocks close down on strengthening yen
Tokyo - Tokyo stocks fell Thursday as a result of a strengthening yen.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average closed down 65.82 points, or 0.64 per cent, at 10,214.64.
The broader-based Topix index lost 7.04 points, or 0.74 per cent, to stand at 942.77.
On currency markets at noon (0300 GMT), the dollar traded at 92.23-24 yen, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 92.65-66 yen.
The euro traded at 1.4275-79 dollars, up from late Wednesday's quote of 1.4212-13 dollars, and at 131.65-70 yen, down from 131.68-72 yen.
A stronger yen increases the prices of Japanese producers' products sold abroad and reduces their overseas earnings. (dpa)
