Tibetan protests cripple Dharamshala economy

Dharamshala, Mar 20 : The ongoing crusade against Chinese suppression of Tibetans has crippled Dharamshala’s economy.

However, according to the protestors, the economy of the area is the last thing on their minds, as all of them are concerned about securing autonomy status for Tibet.

Business establishments and shops have remained closed due to the Tibetan protests for the last ten days.

Exiled Tibetans say that while they understand the adverse affect of their protests on the economy, they can’t help it as they want to reach Tibet before the Olympics begin in Beijing in August this year. .

“We don't care about our economy. We care about our freedom movement," said Tenzin, a Tibetan.

Businessmen say they are losing almost 49,395 US dollars per day due to the protests and the shutdown.

Tibetan around the globe are demanding that the Olympic Games be stopped. They are also demanding the reinstatement of the Dalai Lama in Tibet. (ANI)
