Three suspended till inquiry ends for the microphone glitch case

PWD minister, Mr. Kshitri Goswami has suspended three officers who were held responsible for the malfunctioning of the microphone system in the state assembly on Tuesday.

A snag in the sound system had forced speaker Hashim Abdul Halim to postpone the winter session till 11 am on December 10. Mr. Goswami informed that a four-member inquiry committee has been formed to probe into this matter. Executive engineer Niranjan Das, assistant engineer Debasish Pal and sub-assistant engineer Krishnapada Ghosh, from the electrical wing, have been suspended till the inquiry ends.

The PWD department's engineer-in-chief, Mr. Swapan Das is going to head the team of four members, which will submit its report by December 15. A computer expert from a central government agency also has been chosen as a member of the committee.

The Kshitri Goswami said, "I was told that a virus in the software of the sound system caused the malfunction. I have chosen a computer expert to probe into the matter and assess whether the software system was really damaged."

Mr. Goswami further informed that the CEO of the Germany-based company, which had installed the sound system in the state assembly, has been asked to come down to Kolkata from Singapore to help the investigation committee to quickly reach a conclusion.

The minister has warned the officials against repeating this mistake in the future and has instructed them to always monitor the sound system before putting it to use.
