Three police officers shot on Friday night in Bangkok, one dead
According to the media reports, three police officers were shot Friday night in Bangkok, killing one, near an area where protesters against the Thai government were camped.
The Bangkok Post reported A bystander was also injured. The shooter was on a motorcycle, Witnesses said.
A grenade exploded in the same neighborhood early on Saturday, injuring five police officers and three soldiers.
The BBC also reported that the violence occurred as the United Front for Democracy and Against Dictatorship, the red-shirted supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, continued their protest. The group said Friday it plans to join Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's "road map" to political reconciliation but did not say when its members would break up their encampment.
Jatuporn Prompan, one of the leaders, told reporters on Friday, "The red-shirts will stop our demonstrations when our people have a clear answer to what we demand and when our people are safe."
It was also reported that another group, the yellow shirts, has accused Abhisit of giving in to the red shirts and demand martial law.
The reports further noted that the violence in Bangkok has left hundreds of people hurt and 28 dead since the protests began. (With Inputs from Agencies)
