There Is No Ban On Conducting Nuclear Test - Kakodkar
Bangalore: Anil Kakodkar, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy said there is no ban on carrying out a nuclear test in the 123 accord signed between India and the United States.
He was addressing at the opening ceremony of the novel premises of the Centre for Applicable Mathematics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
Relieving worries that India’s dominion might be destabilized with the nuclear contract, Dr. Kakodkar said, “Everything (about the deal) has been worked out in great detail, especially regarding the nuclear test. In the text there is a no-hindrance clause, which states that there will be no hindrance to the activities of both the countries outside the co-operation… There will also be no hindrance from outside to domestic activities.”
Expressing that India’s nuclear-related actions would not be affected if the contract was ever stopped, he added, “In order to make sure that the cessation and termination does not create difficulties with running the nuclear programme, a series of steps have been defined…It has to go through a process and cannot be abrupt.”
The accord offered for the formation of a planned stockpile to finish the life span of the reactor. The fuel could originate from the US or other sources in order to make sure supply continuity.
He said the arrangement matched the three prerequisites for a winning deal. The three features include the continuance of India’s R&D; the continuance and growth of the three-stage nuclear power plan and the behavior of India’s independent strategic programme.
