Tennessee Woman wakes up from Coma and Learns she gave Birth to Baby Boy
Sharista Giles, a Tennessee resident, learned this week after waking up from coma that she gave birth to baby boy. Giles, 20, met with a car accident near Nashville when she was five months pregnant. The accident as her friend drifted off to sleep while driving the car, causing it to skid and hit a concrete barrier. The accident left Giles with a head trauma, leading her to coma.
Her doctors attempted delivering her baby while she was in coma, though the delivery was premature. After the delivery, the baby weighed one pound, 14 ounce. Doctors told the family of Giles that the chances of Giles to wake up were only 10%. But the family had the belief that Giles will surely wake up one day and that is why they named the baby boy 'baby L' so that Giles herself could name him after she wakes up.
Baby L is doing well and is currently kept at the neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His weight has now increased to six pounds.
After delivering the baby, Giles was moved to the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tennessee. But she woke up from coma last Wednesday and her family was very happy as their prayers were finally answered.
One of her family members posted in a Facebook page, "Sharista has her eyes open n blinking n squeezing our fingers when we ask her to. Praise the Lord! She was following her daddy's voice n we showed her a picture of Baby L n she seen him!!!"
Sharista woke up for the first time after accident on Wednesday and immediately recognized her father and took a look at a photo of her son. Her family did not lose hope despite doctors had a grim prognosis for her recovery.
