Teenager diagnosed with rare brain disorder
Jess Lydon, a 19-year-old performing arts student, has been diagnored with an extremely rare brain disorder that leaves her able to remember only the last 24 hours.
She is trapped in the present since the doctors fdiganored her with the condition called, Susac syndrome, which is also called Groundhog Day" after an American movie. Experts say that the brain condition is so rare that only 250 cases have been reported so far in the world.
She said, "Sometimes I can't even remember what I had for dinner the night before. I can't remember Christmas, or my birthday in December. When I look at photographs I just find it confusing. The really upsetting thing is I don't remember my nan's funeral last year."
Ms Lydon has split with her boyfriend since she has been diagnosed with the disorder but she still wakes up believing that they are still together. She underwent tests for three months after she was taken to a hospital after suffering from severe headaches and dizziness.
Doctors do not know what causes the condition and it takes about up to five years to be cured. However, in severe cases the patient could lose their sight or hearing.
