Taxpayers did not receive good service this year: Officials

According to reports, officials admit that this year, taxpayers did not get good service from the government tax agency. As per advocates for the Internal Revenue Service, budget cuts are the reason behind unsatisfactory service.

However, Congress did not slash IRS expenditure for the present year. The agency itself said that it was having $11.97 billion to spend in fiscal 2015, which is over $250 million more than the amount during the earlier year.

On the other hand, taxpayers who tried to get assistance from the IRS were disappointed again and again. As per reports, only 37% of people who contacted the agency for help got assistance. The system was so filled to capacity that it automatically stopped working on 8.8 million callers.

It is becoming more difficult for the agency to tackle income taxes and there are many factors behind that. As per reports, management decisions by IRS were not helpful. The agency was having 82,203 fulltime employees this year. The number was down 2,556 from FY 2014. During that year also, there was no reduction in the tax service's budget.

According to the report by Nina E. Olson, the taxpayer advocate, "For the segment of taxpayers who required help from the IRS, the filing season was by far the worst in memory. To a significant degree, the IRS' shortcomings are budget-driven".

The IRS is doing more work with less money. As per reports, agency officials and President Barack Obama are looking forward to spend more money for the IRS.
