Larsen & Toubro, the country’s largest manufacturer of equipment for the nuclear power sector, has announced that it has received an order from Bhutan.

The project to be executed by L&T’s construction division is for the construction of the Dam Package, which is a part of the 1,200 MW Punatsangchhu-I Hydroelectric Project Authority in Bhutan.

The project is being set up by the Punatsangchhu-I Hydroelectric Project Authority that has been constituted through a contract between the Indian Government and the Royal Government of Bhutan. 

New Delhi, Jan 19 : Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today said that India continues to be the largest trade and development partner of Bhutan.

During the bilateral interaction with Bhutanese Minister for Economic Affairs, Khandu Wangchuk, he informed that the trade between India and Bhutan has grown significantly from a level of US$ 141.86 million in 2003-2004 to US $ 281.17 million in 2007-2008. In 2007-08, while India''s export to Bhutan was US $ 86.69 million, the imports were valued at US $ 194.48 million.

Thimpu, Nov 7 : World renowned choreographer and dancer Astad Deboo''s troupe on Friday performed at the Chang Lime Thang National Stadium in Thimpu at a ceremony to greet Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk on his coronation as the fifth king of Bhutan.

The troupe performed to the beats of over 30 Manipuri traditional drummers, as part of the two-day celebrations.

Kathmandu  - Bhutanese refugees living in camps in eastern Nepal said they were closely following the coronation of Bhutan's new king even though they held out no hope of returning to their homeland, Nepalese media reports said Friday.

As Bhutan celebrated Thursday's coronation of 28-year-old Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, thousands of refugees said there was little reason to cheer, the Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.

"There is no happiness in the refugee camp as the new king ascends the throne," said SB Subba, chairman of the Human Rights Organization of Bhutan. "It is meaningless for the people in refugee camps as the monarchy is the sole cause of our suffering."
