Ongoing trails testing highest dose of experimental Alzheimer's drug bapineuzumab stopped

Elan and WyethElan Corp., Plc. and Wyeth decided to stop the ongoing clinical trails testing effect of 2.0 mg/kg dose of experimental Alzheimer's drug bapineuzumab.

Officials from both companies declared the discontinuation of the highest of the three dosing regimens, 2.0 mg/kg, in the two ongoing Phase 3 studies of bapineuzumab in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease, or AD, who do not carry the Apolipoprotein E4, or ApoE4, allele. However testing of the 0.5 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg doses in two Phase III trials will continue as planned.

Sutent no better than Xeloda in treating breast cancer Pfizer Inc (PFE. N) stopped a late-stage study of its drug Sutent. This study was evaluating effect of this drug on advanced breast cancer patients. Sutent is presently approved to treat kidney cancer and a type of gastrointestinal cancer. Company officials notified that three other Phase III trials and two mid-stage trials of Sutent are under way in advanced forms of the cancer.

Researchers were analyzing whether patients taking Sutent could survive longer than patients receiving Xeloda.

Medical Care Should Not Be Affected Due To Ego Clashes: HC In response to a letter alleging carelessness by an AIIMS doctor, the Delhi High Court said on Tuesday that internal clashes at the hospital would not to be tolerated at the cost of those suffering.

Showing worry over the physicians not performing their responsibilities appropriately, the bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah said, “No body should be victimised because of ego clash.”

The letter was written by Rekha, the mother of a month-old baby.
