Tata Comm To Offer WiMAX Services
Tata Communications Limited is in search of fresh fields in WiMAX technology based broadband services in order to target individuals as well as home computer users.
Srinivas Addapali, vice-president, strategy said, “We will roll out our WiMAX broadband for consumers by the end of this calendar year.”
Wi-MAX is a next generation technology, which offers up high speed wireless Internet access and links up individual homes and business as far as 30 miles from the central place with long-range frequencies.
The international long distance carrier had commercially rolled out broadband WiMAX for corporate customers in Banglore last May.
Mr. Addapali said, “We are in the process of rolling out the network in 10-12 cities that include Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai.”
"A considerable amount of our capital expenditure of Rs 2250 crore for this year will be earmarked for the WiMAX broadband rollout,” he added.
Recently BSNL has also made announced expression of interest to launch WiMAX based broadband in rustic regions and is likely to roll out services across cities in 2008.
In addition, Dishnet is also an early player in the area.
