Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves at record high in February

Taipei - Taiwan's foreign exchange reserves hit a record high of 294.2 billion US dollars in February on interest and other gains, the Central Bank reported Thursday.

"Our foreign exchange reserves stood at 294.187 billion US dollars as of end of February, up 1.51 billion dollars from the end of January," the bank said in a press statement.

It said the increase - the biggest in history - was mainly due to interest rate gains and returns of effective investments by the bank in other areas. It did not identify what kinds of investments.

As of end of January, Taiwan was the fourth largest foreign exchange reserve holder in the world - after China, Japan and Russia. (dpa)
