Taco Bell to introduce Taco Biscuit stuffed with Crispy Chicken in Breakfast Menu

A biscuit having a crispy chicken filling will take the place of the waffle taco on Taco Bell's breakfast menu. On Thursday, the Irvine-based Mexican fast-food chain will introduce the taco-shaped buttermilk biscuit. The crispy chicken is made of marinated all-white chicken breaded and fried in crushed tortilla chips. The yummy biscuit will be served with jalapeño honey or country gravy.

Chief Executive Brian Niccol said that the company is coming up with interesting food options. It is also encouraging people to change from their breakfast meal options like sandwiches. Taco Bell was of the view that sides that can be chosen with taco biscuit are sausage, eggs and cheese or with bacon, eggs and cheese.

Across the nation, the taco biscuit will cost $2.49. But in order to have sumptuous biscuit, the waffle taco has to be sacrificed. Niccol said that it would be very difficult for kitchen staff to manage both the things in a timely manner.

Niccol agrees with the fact that the decision might have upset many people. Last year, Taco Bell introduced breakfast, which is generally dominated by McDonald's. The breakfast launch was done with an aim to capitalize on the $31 billion breakfast category dominated by McDonald's.

If seen system-wide, Niccol said that breakfast represents around 6% of sales. In South California, breakfast system is quite popular. Therefore, sales are even higher there. Niccol said that there is a lot of growth in front of them.

In fact, Taco Bell customers can even request this crispy chicken as a side-dish in other menu items. Taco Bell has come up with three meals that have crispy chicken, including a three-cheese blend quesadilla, a burrito-style Griller and the Crispy Chicken Chickstar.

On Thursday, Taco Bell restaurants also introduced Mountain Dew Kickstart, an orange-flavored fountain drink.
