A survey reveals increasing levels of obesity in India
According to the survey commenced by National Family Health Survey, it was revealed that approximately 30 million Indians are obese and approximately 20 per cent of school children are in the lieu of becoming overweight.
The survey put lights on increasing levels of obesity across the world and India has also joined the race of obesity. The survey shows that mostly developed countries across the world have unexpected levels of obesity.
The audience taking a workshop on Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery expressed that obesity can be cropped up by many different ailments such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and different types of cancers in women such as breast cancer and uterus cancer, menstrual dysfunction and infertility.
Speakers at the workshop also said that there are many propositions available for treating obesity like diet, exercise, drugs and nowadays 'Bariatric Surgery' (surgical procedures done for obesity) which induces permanent weight loss is also gaining popularity.
From the last two years, workshop has been conducted at ILS (Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery) hospital, Salt Lake and 30 patients of 18-58 years of age have been operated so far at ILS.
Surgeons also said that patients who have came for the surgery weighs in the range of 89-115 kg and they tend to lose an average of 9 kg in one month, 23 kg in three months and 29 kg in six months after the surgery.
