Cystinosis is a rare genetic disease, which is difficult to identify. It is an uncommon condition in which the body collects surplus amino acid cystine resulting in the development of crystals that can harm cells.

Six kids in the state of Tamil Nadu who have cystinosis might now have a shot at a better life.

On May 02, four of the kids got registered with Sapiens Health Foundation, which will offer them treatment, came together to unveil the Cystinosis Chapter of India.

In addition, Kollywood super star Rajnikanth also attended the function.

The majority of the kids denied trusting it was him.

Dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans, the megastar posed with the kids who are getting treatment from nephrologist Rajan Ravichandran, who stumbled upon the illness a year back when he transplanted a kidney on a
7-year-old patient.

The medicine to take care of the illness costs Rs 1 lakh per kid for a six-month period.

The medication is also obtainable in the form of eye drops that are costlier.

Organized by the Sapiens Health Foundation, the chapter eyes at establishing a support group for children suffering without appropriate diagnosis, in addition to importing cysteamine, a medicine sanctioned in Europe to boost growth in kids with this condition, at no cost.

Dr. Rajan said that the illness, though uncommon, is predominantly because of consanguineal marriages.
