Sunburn Art dangerous for Skin: Dermatologists

Dermatologists have called sunburn art an unsafe practice. The trend of 'sunburn art', which involves creating designs on the skin by sun bathing, is growing rapidly, but people should pay heed to the warnings of skin experts who say that it could lead to pre-mature aging and skin cancer.

Toronto dermatologist Dr. Julia Carroll said that it is horrifying and a lot of people are using sunscreen and painting pattern to create temporary designs by protecting certain parts of the skin and exposing the rest.

Carroll said that people are getting so obsessed with getting the look that they are deliberately getting a sun burn. She said that many people are even going straight for the burn to quickly get that contrast.

"It's really important to know that even though you're not getting a burn and just getting a tan, a tan is also sign that you're causing skin damage", said Carroll. She added that one bad sun burn before the age of 18 puts the person at double the risk of developing melanoma.

The Skin Care Foundation has called the new trend of getting sunburn to create deigns on the skin dangerous, as it raises the risks of skin cancer and other dangerous conditions.

The Skin Care Foundation has said that sunburn has great potential of causing D-N-A damage and expediting the skin's aging process.

Dermatologists also that people involves in taking sunburns are less likely to meet skincare experts, which may keep them unaware about the dangers of sunburns.
