Seoul  - South Korean President Lee Myung Bak Sunday met with a delegation of high-ranking officials from North Korea on the second day of renewed talks, a presidential spokesman said.

The meetings, which began Saturday, were the first high-level talks in two years amid indications of an easing of tensions on the Korean peninsula.

It was not clear if the North Korean delegation, which was led by two officials of the ruling communist workers' party, delivered a message from North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

It was the first time since he entered office in February 2008 that the conservative South Korean president met with officials of North Korea.

The meeting took place just hours before the state funeral for former South Korean president Kim Dae Jung. On Friday, the six-member delegation from Pyongyang paid the North's final respects to Kim who died on Tuesday. Kim had worked hard to promote North-South relations. (dpa)
