Somnath Chatterjee criticises the inner rivalry in Election Commission

Somnath ChatterjeeNew Delhi, Feb 4 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee expressed his agitation over the inner rivalry in the Election Commission by criticising Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami''s repeated insistence on the removal of Chief Commissioner from the Election Commission.

Chatterjee said that there is a defined line for every institution and all should remain within that as per the Constitution.

"Every institution today is trying to sort of either create problems for itself or denigrate itself. Instead of doing our respective work, we are trying to find out how to score points over each other," he said.

Chatterjee appealed all the national organizations to work honestly and sincerely and get rid of corruption.

On February 2, Law Minister H R Bharadwaj had also warned Gopalaswami not to act like a ''political boss'' and concentrate on his duties.

Bhardwaj had said that the Election Commission''s role is to prepare for the elections and not to settle personal scores. (ANI)
