Somdev, Sania rise in ATP rankings

Somdev DevvarmanThe India's no 1, Somdev Devvarman has jumped seven place to achieve his career best ranking of 124 in the men's singles category in the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings released on Monday.

Somdev had started his sojourn in the tennis world with an ATP ranking of more than 200 at the start of current year, but he climbed to 129th place in June, and then moved two places to be at 127th place in July.

In women's singles, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has moved three spots to be at the 58th place. The 22-year old Hyderabad's girl had made into the semifinals of the Japan Open in Osaka last week. Sania also gained two places in the women doubles rankings to be at 36th place.

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj both slipped 58 and 26 places to be at 416th and 249th place respectively in the men's singles. In the men's doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes retained their rankings at sixth and eighth place respectively.
