Somdev makes into Legg Mason Classic
Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman has made in to the main draw of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic with prize money of $1,402,000 after defeating the second seeded French Jousselin Ouanna 2-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Somdev, India's no. 1, started his campaign against Ouanna on a negative note as he lost first set in the final of the qualifying round. Second set was easily won by Somdev but he made a strong comeback in the final set after trailing by 3-4 to win the set and the match.
Somdev had also won back-to back National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships in 2007 and 2008 when he was pursuing his studies at University of Virginia in Washington.
Somdev will now lock horns with the young Japanese qualifier Yuichi Sugita in the first round of Legg Mason Classic. If he wins the first round match then he will play against the sixth seeded Croat Marin Cilic in the second round of the tournament.
