Somdev advances in ATP Challenger

Somdev advances in ATP ChallengerIndia's no. 1, Somdev Devvarman has defeated Gillermo Olaso of Spain in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to advance into the second round of the men's singles event of the US $125,000 ATP Challenger in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Monday.

The seventh seeded Somdev clocked just one hour and seven minutes to demolish his 281 ranked opponent during the first round. Somdev broke Olaso in the sixth game to win first set. The second set was just a cakewalk for Somdev as he broke his opponent twice in third and seventh games to wrap up the match.

Somdev will face the winner of match between Latvian Deniss Pavlovs and Russian Alexandre Kudryavtsev in the second round.

Meanwhile, wild card holder Rohan Bopanna went down to the top seeded Hsun Yen Lu of Chinese Taipei in straight sets 4-6, 2-6 in an hour and six minutes. Bopanna pocketed a cheque of US $1300 but he did not gained any ranking point.
