Snow storms force German motorists to sleep in cars

Germany MapBerlin - Hundreds of German motorists slept in their cars Tuesday night as snow chaos blocked a motorway in the south of the country.

Heavy snowfall near the Bavarian town of Wuerzburg caused lorries to skid sideways on the A3 motorway, blocking the westbound carriageway to traffic travelling toward Frankfurt, police reported.

Cars ground to a halt, forming a thirty-kilometre traffic jam. Drivers had no choice but to spend the night in their vehicles, supplied by the Red Cross with biscuits and warm tea.

Traffic started flowing again Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported. (dpa)
