Sharif terms holding elections under PCO as fraudulent
Lahore, Nov 12: Former Pakistan Prime Minister and PML (N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said that holding the general elections with the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) in place will be fraudulent.
The Daily Times quoted Sharif as saying in a Geo News report that President General Pervez Musharraf imposed an “emergency-cum-martial law” to rig the general elections and to pave way for his allies in the upcoming elections.
Dismissing any possibility of free and fair elections under the PCO, Sharif said Musharraf was deceiving the entire nation, and the general’s press conference on Sunday was full of false statements.
On the one hand, Musharraf was talking of a level-playing field for all parties involved, but on the other hand hundreds of political parties’ workers had been detained while the ruling Pakistan Muslim League had been given a free hand, Sharif said.
Demanding the restoration of the judiciary to the position it was in before November 3 when emergency was declared, he said Musharraf’s statements at the press conference represented his prejudice for the judiciary.
Sharif also criticised curbs on private television channels, and urged all political parties to unite against the Musharraf led military regime. (ANI)
