Serious Avian Flu Outbreak leads to Record-High Prices for Eggs
More than 47 million birds were affected in an avian flu outbreak in the USA. The USDA has predicted that the country can witness record-high prices for eggs this year.
As per the National Association of Egg Farmers president Ken Klippen, egg prices across the nation have increased 120% from May to June. As per the June data, the average price for a dozen wholesale eggs will be between $1.60 and $1.66, which is estimated to be 30 cents higher than in May.
Klippen said that out of all, California shoppers have been witnessing the highest prices. Klippen affirmed, "When the California egg law went into effect January 1, mandating enclosure sizes for laying hens, the national large white egg prices were $0.82-1.04 per dozen. In California, egg prices were $2.75-3.30 per dozen".
Those who love eggs are facing a tough time as they are upset with the fact that prices have risen again. Many people shared that they used to have eggs in morning, but due to rise in egg prices they have to change this habit. Now, they are trying different options, like smoothies with fruits and vegetables.
In Arizona as well the bird flu has made its way. As many as four facilities have been under quarantine on precautionary basis. In the Midwest, the condition is quite bad as the disease has led to the culling of as many as tens of millions of chickens, which has led to chronic shortage of eggs across the nation.
