Senior citizen Kidnapped, robbed

Around five unidentified persons allegedly kidnapped a 63-year-old senior citizen and robbed valuables worth Rs86,000 from him before pushing him down a valley near Bhor on Monday night.

The victim, Sadashiv Rama Banjan, a prominent electronic goods showroom owner, is a resident of Shivajinagar. Following Banjan's complaint with the Faraskhana police in this regard on Tuesday, the police have booked five suspects.

According to the complaint, Banjan had gone to Budhwar Peth to purchase goods when at around 10 pm, two youths alighted from a car and forced him him to enter inside the vehicle. Three other persons were also inside the car. The suspects blindfolded the victim and pushed him down a valley at the Varandha Ghat section of the Bhor-Mahad Road before robbing his jewellery, cellphone and cash totally worth Rs86,000. However, the senior citizen fell into a small ditch, which saved his life.

Banjan reached a state transport bus stop at Mahad and later contacted family members.
