Security threats put pressure on IPL Chief Lalit Modi
The problem for India's T-20 cricketing league Indian Premiere League (IPL) seems to be mounting by the day. The concerns over the security during IPL are getting severe. Australia's security expert Reg Dickason said in his report that though the blue-print of the security plan looks sound yet the problem is the various state government haven't given confirmation on the police personnel required for the respective matches.
The tournament will be scheduled to host 60 matches to be held in 12 cities across nine states, spread over a period of 45 days. Thus, no confirmation from the State Governments actually jeopardizes the entire security plan and thus Dickason suggested in his report that the actual security risks are very high for IPL.
However, the Australian Cricketer's Association has decided to discuss the issue with IPL Chief Lalit Modi. The cricket association is hopeful that Modi will do the needful to ensure sufficient security for the players participating in the tournament.
The security threats by terrorist organizations are giving the country really tough time and IPL is not the lone sufferer. The hockey World Cup, hosted in the country, has just four days to go and because of the security issues, media is facing a major problem in covering the issue. The proper access to teams, grounds and players is not available to the journalists due to high security risk. This has resulted in very low buzz about the event.
