Second recall of H1N1 vaccine was not safety-related
The Kansas Department of Health & Environment has said that a recall of 4.7 million doses of a nasal spray version of the H1N1 vaccine was voluntary and not safety-related.
MedImmune, the producer of the vaccine, had recalled some lots of the vaccine after finding that the vaccine in them deteriorated faster-than-expected and lost potency.
However, commenting on the issue, Public Health Branch Director Susan Buckley said, “The good news here is that the slight potency decline will have no noticeable impact on effectiveness, and no impact at all on vaccine safety.”
In addition, Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips, State Health Officer, added that those people who received a dose of the recalled vaccine need not return for additional dose.
