Savitri Jindal among five richest Indians
Savitri Jindal has entered the exclusive rich club in India by becoming the fifth richest Indian on the list prepared by the Forbes magazine. She is the richest women in India with an estimated $9.5 billion in wealth.
Businessman, Mukesh Ambani remains the richest man in the country for the fourth year with a net worth of $22.6 billion after loosing $4.4 billion to recessionary pressures. The new list estimates that 100 richest Indians have lost about 20 per cent of their total wealth due to the global economic slowdown. Steel tycoon, Laxmi Mittal is the on the second spot with $19.2 billion after loosing $6.9 billion, ahead of IT sector major, Azim Premji with $13 billion at the third position and Shashi & Ravi Ruia with $10.2 billion in wealth at the forth spot. Savitri Jindal became the only women the top five richest persons in the country.
The sixth place was taken by telecom tycoon, Sunil Mittal with $8.8 billion, ahead of Gautam Adani at seventh spot with $8.2 billion, Kumar Birla with $7.7 billion at eighth and Pallonji Mistry with $7.6 billion at ninth position on the list. Adi Godrej completed the lsit of the ten richest persons in India with an accumulated wealth of $6.8 billion.
Mukesh Ambani’s younger brother Anil Ambani fell out of the top ten and was at 13th positon after a dip of $7.4 billion. There are 14 new persons in the top 100 list including Rahul Bhatia of low-cost carrier Indigo and Anand Mahindra. Among the noted exits are former billionaires, Vinod Goenka and Shahid Balwa, whoa re now facing charges in the 2G scam.
The magazine said that the Net worths are based on shares prices and exchange rates on October 12.
