Rupesh-Sanave fails to overcome last hurdle
Top seeded Indian pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas has failed to overcome last hurdle in their way to win a Grand Prix title as they lost the final match against the second seeded pair of Malaysian Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shen at the Australian Open Grand Prix at Melbourne on Sunday.
The Malaysian duo outplayed Indian duo of Rupesh-Sanave in straight sets by 21-13 21-11 in the final match of the men's double event.
Sunday came out with another disappointment as later in the day, the top seeded Indian pair of Shruti Kurian and Aparna Balan were thumped by Huang Chia Chi and Tang He Hian duo in another two setter match by 21-13 21-9.
Indonesian shuttlers claimed both singles titles as Dionysius Rumbaka outplayed Yunus Alamsyah by 21-17 21-18 in the final match of the men's singles event while Febe Kusumastuti defeated the top seeded Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong by 21-18 21-19.
The mixed double title was won by Hong Kong's Yohan Hadikusumo and Hoi Wah Chau after defeating Henry Tam and Donna Haliday duo of Australia by 21-11 21-5 in the final match.
