Researchers design 3D Printed Bikini to clean Oceans
Researchers at UC Riverside Engineering have designed a 3D printed bikini that cleans water around women who are wearing the bikini, according to reports.
The oceans are currently home to many finest species and all kinds of pollutants that subsist on the Earth. The 3D printed bikini is named as Sponge. As per the reports, the unique bikini cleans up the pollutants that are around the women who are wearing it.
Mihri Ozkan, UC Riverside by an electrical engineering professor, has designed the bikini. In Wearable Technology Competition, the 3D printed bikini has won award by acquiring top spot in the list of 15 other competitors. This new technology has been in limelight since then.
The 3D printed bikini is water repelling and has high absorbing capacity. The bikini is made out of carbon material and is very flexible and lightweight. Along with that, the bikini can absorb 25% of its own weight.
“The form of the Sponge Suit is inspired by the super-porous, mesh-like structure of the Sponge material. The filler amount and the allocation were identified by creating the ergonomics of the human body, while pushing the limits in translucent swimwear design”, as per sources.
The pollutants that are absorbed by Sponge can be released easily by heating up the suit to approximately 1800 degrees Celsius.
