Replica of Roman Trevi Fountain returned by ‘Thieves’
Officials have said that a statue stolen from Buffalo's replica of the Roman Trevi Fountain was returned intact in time for the city's annual Italian Heritage Festival.
The Buffalo N. Y. News has reported that pranksters took off with the 6-foot, 150-pound statue of Oceanus, the Titan god and king of the seas, but returned it on Wednesday.
The News also reported that police reviewed footage from surveillance cameras near the statue through which they obtained enough information on the two "young people" who took the statue and its whereabouts.
Peter Lojocano, the festival's cultural director, said, "People were able to reach out to them and asked them to return the statue immediately."
The newspaper also said that festival organizers decided not to press charges.
Festival spokesman Steve Reszka said that the two pranksters "have been convinced to do some community service."
Lojocano had said before the statue was returned, "The fountain is still very beautiful without the statue." (With Inputs from Agencies)
