Tripura capital hosts conference on community-based disaster risk reductionAgartala (Tripura), Dec. 14 : Tripura capital Agartala recently played host to a two-day conference on Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR).

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Tripura Government organized the conference jointly, which was attended by representatives from the government, engineers, army, paramilitary, police personnel, students, teachers and NGOs.

School children, health workers, different non-government organizations, people from different walk of life, including sex workers marched through the streets in Agartala - to mark World AIDS Day and educate the public about prevention and treatment for the HIV-positive.

Tripura to have ATSTripura police has decided to set up a full-fledged anti terrorist squad (ATS). This is a move to counter the growing threat perception in the North-Eastern hilly state.

Two contingents of paramilitary, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel would be sent to Delhi to undergo rigorous training in the elite National Security Guards (NSG) Centre in December and February next, an official told.

"The NSG authority has already agreed to train the selected TSR jawans in two batches", he said adding handling of high- power explosives and sniffer dogs and modern weapons would be focused during the training.

3 BSF jawans killed in TripuraThree Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were shot dead by Separatist guerrillas in Dhalai district of Tripura on Saturday.

A lobourer was also killed in the same incident.

"The BSF men (77 Battalion) were guarding those working on the India-Bangladesh border fencing being constructed by NPCC when they got ambushed," police spokesman Mayajoy Rupini said.

The dead worker belonged to the National Project Construction Co (NPCC).

The police has blamed the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) for the killings.
